External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has called upon all warring nations to exercise restraint, protect civilians, and ensure the uninterrupted flow of energy and commerce during ongoing conflicts.
In an address to the UN General Assembly in New York last night, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized the need for all parties to de-escalate tensions and protect civilians amid ongoing conflicts.
The repercussions of wars, he noted, extend far beyond the borders of directly engaged nations, destabilizing global security and slowing development in distant regions.
India is prepared to contribute towards improving the situation, particularly in the areas of food and energy security. The minister specifically referenced the protracted Russia-Ukraine conflict and the ongoing Gulf conflict as critical international concerns.
Dr Jaishankar also highlighted the need to address attacks on commercial ships and seafarers in various regions, from the Gulf to the Red Sea and Black Sea.
He underscored the importance of ensuring stable distribution channels for food grains and energy resources. In addition, he emphasized India's right to defend itself against terrorism, particularly state-sponsored terrorism with a cross-border purpose.
The minister also touched upon the weaponization of various aspects, including finance, market access, supply chains, and technology, and the subsequent measures taken by countries to reduce risks and diversify their ties.
