Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, announced measures to strengthen agricultural growth at a conference attended by various state officials.

On September 29, 2026, the National Agriculture Conference – Rabi Campaign 2026 took place under the chairmanship of Union Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The event was attended by Agriculture Ministers and senior officials from various states. Addressing the gathering, Chouhan emphasized the importance of working in unity under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to ensure food security and improve farmers’ livelihoods.

In his speech, Chouhan highlighted that under Modi’s leadership, farmers’ interests have been given top priority in major policy decisions and international agreements. He also stressed that the platform was not about politics but about finding practical ways to improve agriculture and advance the interests of farmers.

During the conference, sanction letters worth over ₹1200 crore were distributed under the Prime Minister Rashtriyakrishi Vikas Yojana (PM-RKVY) to Agriculture Ministers of 10 states. The distribution included ₹290 crore for West Bengal, ₹198 crore for Haryana, and ₹181 crore for Chhattisgarh, among others.

Chouhan also announced a new mechanism to strengthen cooperative federalism by holding regular monthly virtual review meetings with states. He further announced an annual calendar for pre-season agriculture interface meetings, district-level meetings on May 10 and state-level meetings on May 17 every year for the Kharif campaign, and similar arrangements for the Rabi campaign.

Emphasizing the need to protect soil health and the environment, Chouhan called for a nationwide ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan’ from October 22 to November 30 this year. He also highlighted the importance of focusing on soil moisture, water availability, and crop protection during preparations for the current rabi season.

In his address, Chouhan also discussed the government's strategy to ensure remunerative prices for farmers through strengthening post-harvest management, scientific warehousing, and marketing systems. He announced 100% assured government procurement of tur, urad, and masoor at minimum support price (MSP) with payment within 48 hours.
