Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, presiding over an event in Burripalem village, Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, approves the construction of 3 lakh permanent houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin).
On October 2, 2023, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, along with Union Minister of State Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, visited Burripalem, the ancestral village of the latter. During this visit, a significant decision was made regarding the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin), a central government scheme aimed at providing affordable housing for rural Indians. Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced his approval for the construction of 3 lakh permanent houses in Andhra Pradesh under this initiative.
This decision surpassed the initial proposal of constructing 75,000 houses as required by the state government. When Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu mentioned that the state would require a total of 9 lakh houses to address its housing needs, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan promised to immediately sanction the remaining 6 lakh houses after the first phase of construction is completed.
The decision by Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan marks a significant step towards addressing the housing shortage in rural Andhra Pradesh. The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) provides central assistance to states and union territories for rural housing development, and this increased allocation is expected to contribute significantly to rural infrastructure development.
