The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) finds a sample of Nestlé's low-fat dairy whitener collected from The LaLiT hotel in Delhi’s Connaught Place to be unsafe and substandard. The FSSAI directs the immediate prohibition of the product's sale.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has found a sample of Nestlé's low-fat dairy whitener, collected from The LaLiT hotel in Delhi’s Connaught Place, to be 'unsafe and substandard'. In a social media post, the food regulator stated that it had directed the immediate prohibition of the product's sale. The FSSAI also mentioned that a food analyst’s laboratory report found that the product did not comply with the 2006 Food Safety and Standards Act.
Upon receiving communication from the FSSAI, Bharat Hotels Limited, the food business operator, immediately discontinued the product's use and removed all packets. The regulator provided a copy of the laboratory analysis report to the company for reference and necessary action. It also issued a notice to the company over the non-compliant product. The FSSAI offered an opportunity to Bharat Hotels Limited to appeal against the food analyst’s report under Section of the FSS Act, 2006, within the prescribed period.
In response, Nestlé India stated that the product is 'safe to consume' and complies with applicable regulations. An unidentified spokesperson maintained that the regulator’s report does not account for phosphorus naturally present in milk-based ingredients, and the product complies with prescribed limits for added phosphorus.
This incident comes weeks after the food regulator initiated legal action against Nestlé India for a sample of one of the company's baby food products being found to be substandard during testing.
