The state of Madhya Pradesh, under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, is expanding its aviation network to enhance connectivity and access to emergency, healthcare, and tourism services.
Under the Civil Aviation Policy-2025, Madhya Pradesh is in the process of expanding its aviation infrastructure. The state currently has eight airports, more than 20 airstrips, and 220 helipads. Notable additions include Rewa, Datia, and Satna, operational since 2024-25, and development work is underway at airports in Ujjain and Shivpuri. The state government aims to increase the number of airports to ten soon.
The state is also developing airport infrastructure every 150 km, an airstrip every 75 km, and a helipad every 45 km, with permanent helipads planned for all 230 Assembly constituencies. The Central Government is processing approval for five new airports, with Singrauli being accorded priority.
The state government is set to receive a new government aircraft, reducing its dependence on chartered planes and strengthening its aviation capabilities. The new aircraft is expected to significantly reduce the state’s monthly air travel expenditure.
The PM Shri Air Ambulance Service has been operational since May 29, 2024, providing timely medical assistance to patients across Madhya Pradesh. The service offers free transportation to government and empanelled hospitals for Ayushman cardholders, while non-Ayushman beneficiaries can avail of free transport within the state at prescribed rates.
The PM Shri Heli Tourism Service provides convenient access to spiritual, heritage, and natural attractions in Madhya Pradesh. The service is being operated under a three-year PPP contract using modern helicopters with a minimum capacity of six passengers.
