Review meeting held under Co-Chairmanship of Shri Rajesh Verma emphasizes strict compliance with Statutory Directions, MCD directed to strengthen dust mitigation measures on roads and open areas.

A review meeting was conducted today, led by Shri Rajesh Verma, Chairperson of the Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM), and the Chief Secretary, Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD). The gathering aimed to address dust pollution issues and strengthen coordinated action for effective air pollution mitigation in Delhi.

The Commission emphasized that all involved parties must adhere strictly to its Statutory Directions. Notably, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) was directed to fortify dust mitigation measures on roads and open spaces under its purview. This directive is a continuation of an earlier notice dated 07.10.2026, in which MCD was ordered to appear before the Commission along with all its Deputy Commissioners on 12.10.2026, to present a detailed zone-wise account of efforts towards dust and garbage removal from roads.

During today’s meeting, the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) was directed to foster close collaboration among all concerned agencies for effective air pollution mitigation. It has been observed that many construction-related agencies and departments in Delhi are not implementing dust mitigation measures such as wind barriers, dust screens, and are particularly lax in regards to digging work that generates significant amounts of dust.

Consequently, the concerned departments were instructed to address identified dust pollution issues promptly and take strict action against negligent officials and project proponents/implementing agencies in cases of non-compliance. The Commission reiterated that strict action would be taken against officials failing to implement the Statutory Directions, particularly with regard to dust mitigation measures. The District Magistrates of GNCTD would monitor compliance and ensure that measures are implemented on the ground in their respective jurisdictions.

The review meeting serves as a reminder of the need for continuous effort and strict adherence to dust mitigation measures in Delhi, given its persistent issues with air pollution.
