The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that cyclonic storm Arnab, with maximum sustained wind speed of 125 km per hour to 135 km per hour, is expected to make landfall between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. Residents are being evacuated, and numerous teams from the National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Forces (SDRF) have been deployed in affected states.

According to IMD, cyclone Arnab is approaching the coast of Andhra Pradesh. The cyclone will make landfall between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam, close to Puducherry’s Yanam town. The maximum sustained wind speed of the cyclone is expected to be 125 km per hour to 135 km per hour, gusting up to 150 km per hour. It is predicted to make landfall in the early hours of Wednesday. As of 2.30 pm Indian time on Tuesday, the cyclonic storm was centred about 170 km south of Vishakhapatnam. The weather department has warned of isolated but extremely heavy rainfall in coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Odisha and Chhattisgarh on Tuesday and Wednesday. Residents in these areas have been advised to remain alert, follow official weather updates and adhere to the advisories issued by the authorities.

In Andhra Pradesh, nearly 89,000 persons living on the Kakinada coast are being shifted to relief camps. The National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) has deployed 31 teams in the states likely to be affected, with 12 teams in Andhra Pradesh, nine in Odisha, four in Chhattisgarh, three in Telangana and two in Yanam. Additionally, about 11 State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have been deployed in Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, and 60 teams of the state’s disaster rapid action force have been deployed in Odisha.

At least 64 trains scheduled to operate on Tuesday and Wednesday have been cancelled as a precautionary measure. The affected routes include Vijayawada-Rajahmundry, Vijayawada-Narasapur, Vijayawada-Machilipatnam, Visakhapatnam-Parvatipuram, Machilipatnum-Gudivada, Kakinada Port-Visakhapatnam and Guntur-Repalle.
