An eight-year-old boy physically assaulted a kindergarten student by repeatedly banging her head against a desk and hitting her with a brick. The girl suffered facial and nasal fractures.
On Wednesday, an alarming incident occurred at a government school in Panchkula, Haryana. According to The Indian Express report on Sunday, the eight-year-old boy lured the kindergarten student into an empty classroom by saying her father was coming to school. Once inside, he grabbed the girl by her hair and violently assaulted her. He repeatedly banged her head against a desk and hit her with a brick. The girl lost consciousness after being hit and remained unresponsive on the floor. This brutal attack continued until she regained consciousness on Saturday at a hospital in Chandigarh, where she is currently undergoing treatment for facial and nasal fractures. When the girl's father arrived at the school to pick her up, the boy led him upstairs to where the girl was. CCTV footage from the classroom, later shared on social media, showed the boy dragging the unconscious girl across the floor and continuing to hit her. The boy was taken for a mandatory mental health assessment at a hospital on Saturday, as required in cases involving children between seven and 12 years of age. A first information report has been registered under sections of the Juvenile Justice Care and Protection of Children Act, 2015, and provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The Haryana government has formed a five-member committee to investigate the incident and ordered a safety audit of schools in the state. It will also bear the cost of the girl’s treatment.
