The National Zoological Park in New Delhi celebrated its 67th Foundation Day on November 1st with a doodle activity for visitors and the 19th edition of 'Sunday Bird Walk @ NZP'. The events aimed to promote wildlife conservation, biodiversity awareness, and environmental education.
On November 1st, 2026, the National Zoological Park (NZP) in New Delhi celebrated its 67th Foundation Day with an engaging doodle activity for visitors. This initiative received a positive response from approximately 1,500 participants who appreciated and participated in the event. The activity served as an interactive and creative platform, particularly for children and families, to express their ideas and connect with the importance of protecting wildlife and nature.
Dr. Sanjeet Kumar, Director (NZP), emphasized that the Foundation Day is a significant milestone in the Park’s journey, renewing its commitment to wildlife conservation, animal welfare, biodiversity protection, and public engagement. He invited citizens to connect with the National Zoological Park, learn about rich biodiversity, and join in protecting wildlife and the natural world for future generations.
In addition to the doodle activity, the NZP also organized the 19th edition of ‘Sunday Bird Walk @ NZP’. The walk was conducted under the expert guidance of Dr. Paritosh Ahmed, Ornithologist, with the support of dedicated volunteers. A total of 18 participants took part in the programme, recording 46 bird species and observing more than 500 individual birds.
During the walk, participants contributed to field-level biodiversity documentation and gained practical insights into bird ecology, behavior, and conservation. The expert shared knowledge about the role of birds in maintaining ecological balance, including through natural pest control and their value as indicators of ecosystem health.
Addressing the participants, Director (NZP) emphasised that nature walks strengthen field-identification skills, deepen understanding of ecological relationships and food webs, support biodiversity documentation, and foster a lasting appreciation of wildlife conservation. To ensure meaningful learning and effective participation, each Sunday Bird Walk is limited to 20–25 participants. Prior registration is mandatory, and places are allotted on a first-come, first-served basis. The registration form remains open from Monday to Friday each week. The link is available on the official website of the National Zoological Park and through the NZP Saathi mobile application.
