The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Uttar Pradesh issued an order for the immediate deactivation of the login IDs of all computer assistants working on the Election Commission’s ECINET portal in the state. The decision followed allegations by the Congress party that more than 13,000 voter names had been replaced with those of other persons in Pilibhit Sadar Assembly constituency.
The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Uttar Pradesh, Navdeep Rinwa, issued an order on Saturday for the immediate deactivation of the login IDs of all computer assistants working on the Election Commission’s ECINET portal in the offices of electoral registration officers across the state. The order followed allegations by the Congress party on October 21 that more than 13,000 voter names had been replaced with those of other persons after the final electoral rolls were published in Pilibhit Sadar Assembly constituency.
On October 22, Rinwa confirmed irregularities in 10,470 electoral roll entries in the constituency after the revision. An investigation by the Pilibhit district election officer found that a computer assistant had entered 13,779 Form 8 applications. Form 8 is used to correct details in an existing electoral roll or shift a voter’s residence.
On October 25, The Election Commission ordered the reverification of all names added to, deleted from, or amended in Uttar Pradesh’s electoral rolls through Forms 6, 7, and 8 by computer assistants in all 403 Assembly constituencies after the special intensive revision ended on April 10. The BJP-ruled state of Uttar Pradesh had more than 15 crore electors before the roll revision.
Around 806 computer operators are deployed in the offices of electoral registration officers across Uttar Pradesh. Each Assembly constituency has two computer assistants working as operators at voter registration centres in these offices.
