India's 17-year-old tennis player Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi has reached the quarter-finals of a WTA Tour event for the first time since Sania Mirza in 2012.
Seventeen-year-old Indian tennis sensation, Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi, has made history by becoming the first woman from India to reach the quarter-finals of a WTA Tour-level singles event since Sania Mirza in 2012. Ranked 669th globally, she defeated Polish qualifier Weronika Falkowska, ranked 277th, 6-4, 6-3 in straight sets at the second round of the Chennai Open.
Her victory marks a significant milestone for Indian tennis, as no player had progressed beyond the second round in the previous two editions of the tournament. This achievement signifies India's return to the quarter-finals of a WTA Tour singles event after nearly 15 years, with Sania Mirza last achieving this feat in February 2012 at the Pattaya Open.
