Delhi Police arrest three contractors identified as Siraj, Tajuddin, and Furkan in connection with a building collapse in Old Delhi's Chawri Bazar area that killed two people. The arrested individuals have been booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
The Delhi Police have apprehended three contractors, identified as Siraj, Tajuddin, and Furkan, in connection with the collapse of a building under construction in Old Delhi’s Chawri Bazar area that resulted in the death of two persons. According to Sub-Divisional Magistrate Manoj Kumar's statement on Friday morning, at least five people are still feared trapped under the debris.
The three men were arrested from Sirohi village in Faridabad’s Dauj tehsil, as per the police. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Rohit Rajbir Singh identified the accused.
In a letter to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi five months earlier, the Delhi Police had flagged unauthorized construction at the property. The municipal corporation acknowledged receiving the communication and had warned the owner of the three-storey building to undertake repairs to ensure structural safety in April. However, it alleged that the owner used its advisory for repairs as a cover to clandestinely construct an entirely new building.
This arrest comes two months after seven persons were killed after a five-storey building in Satya Niketan collapsed on September 6. The building was being used as paying guest accommodation.
