The Madhya Pradesh government has formed a committee, headed by the Chief Secretary, to prepare necessary documents and ensure compliance with UNESCO’s conservation rules for Orchha's inclusion in the World Heritage list.
The Madhya Pradesh government has taken a significant step towards getting Orchha included in UNESCO’s World Heritage list. Last year, UNESCO’s body ICOMOS suggested that the management of Orchha’s heritage sites needed strengthening. Based on this recommendation, the state government has formed a state-level committee to prepare necessary documents for inclusion during 2027-28.
The Chief Secretary will head this committee, and senior officials from the culture, urban development, forest, public works departments have been included. The Collector of Niwari and an officer from the Archaeological Survey of India will also be members. The Secretary of the Tourism Department has been made the member-secretary of this committee.
The committee will review all ongoing and upcoming projects in Orchha to ensure they comply with heritage conservation rules. It will also ensure that all departments consider heritage conservation while approving projects in Orchha.
