The Ministry of Railways has implemented numerous strategies to manage the anticipated surge in passengers during the upcoming Diwali and Chhath festivals. This includes operating 18,000 special trains, deploying additional security personnel, and installing AI cameras at major stations.
In an effort to handle the projected increase in passengers during the forthcoming Diwali and Chhath celebrations, the Ministry of Railways has initiated several crowd-management strategies. A total of 18,000 special trains will be operated to accommodate the anticipated passenger rush.
Besides this, additional Railway Protection Force personnel have been mobilized for enhanced security during these festivals.
Artificial Intelligence-enabled cameras have been strategically placed at key railway stations, such as New Delhi Railway Station, to monitor passenger flow and improve crowd management. The Minister of Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, mentioned that New Delhi Railway Station normally caters to over five lakh passengers daily, with this figure escalating to approximately eight lakh during peak periods.
During his inspection at the New Delhi Railway Station, Mr. Vaishnaw also disclosed that more than 700 AI-enabled cameras have been installed at this specific station for effective monitoring of passenger movement. Separate holding areas for both reserved and unreserved passengers have been established this year to prevent overcrowding and ensure the convenience of all passengers.
Mr. Vaishnaw also highlighted that similar holding areas have been set up at various major railway stations nationwide that experience increased passenger traffic during festive seasons.
