Amit Shah chairs high-level meeting to discuss security issues, drug menace, law and order, and citizen safety in Gujarat.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level review meeting in Ahmedabad today, attended by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi, and senior officials from the Union Home Ministry, the State Home Department, and various security agencies. The meeting focused on multiple facets of state and national security, including border and coastal security, narcotics control, cybercrime, and disaster management. Topics like the Citizenship Amendment Act, the upcoming census, and the Agniveer scheme were also discussed. Mr Shah assessed the law and order and citizen security situation in Gujarat ahead of Diwali.

Stressing the urgency of tackling the drug menace, the Union Home Minister urged officials to work towards achieving the goal of a ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ by 2029. He emphasized the need for widespread social awareness, strict action against narcotics, and the expansion of the 1933 anti-drug helpline to coordinate intensive drives.

The Union Home Department presented a detailed overview of the state’s law and order situation. In response, Mr. Shah provided essential suggestions concerning critical topics such as the drought situation, farmers’ issues, and the condition of border districts. Discussions also focused on strengthening the public prosecution system, enhancing technical evidence gathering, and setting up evening courts for expedited proceedings.
