Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has retired from Test cricket and will concentrate on limited-overs cricket going forward.
In a significant development for Indian cricket, fast bowler Mohammed Shami has announced his retirement from Test cricket. With this decision, he ends a 13-year career in the longest format of the game.
Shami finished his Test career with an impressive record, having taken 229 wickets from 64 matches at an average of 27.71, including six five-wicket hauls. This placed him as India’s sixth-highest wicket-taking fast bowler in Test cricket, behind Kapil Dev, Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma, Javagal Srinath and Jasprit Bumrah.
However, Shami will not be retiring from cricket entirely. He intends to focus his efforts on limited-overs cricket and continue representing India in this format. The 36-year-old made his announcement via a social media post.
