Madhya Pradesh is the foremost state in implementing the PM Rahat Yojana, offering cashless medical treatment to road accident victims. The scheme's success can be attributed to the effective coordination among the Police, Administration, and Health Departments.

Madhya Pradesh has taken the lead in implementing the Prime Minister's flagship scheme, PM Rahat Yojana, which aims to provide immediate relief through cashless medical treatment for road accident victims. Launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on February 13, 2026, the initiative is being effectively managed by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav through close collaboration among the Police, Administration, and Health Departments.

Key Highlights of the Scheme

The Prime Minister has launched the Cashless Treatment Scheme for road accident victims. Under this scheme, eligible road accident victims are entitled to cashless medical treatment of up to ₹1.5 lakh for a maximum period of seven days from the date of the accident.

Madhya Pradesh is among the country's leading states in effective implementation of the scheme, delivering the best performance in its execution. As of July 16, 2026, a total of 6,044 cases have been registered under the scheme in Madhya Pradesh, accounting for 28 per cent of all cases nationwide.

Eligibility and Coverage

Any person injured in a road accident involving a motor vehicle is eligible to receive treatment under the scheme. The victim must be admitted to a hospital within 24 hours of the accident. Each eligible victim is entitled to cashless treatment of up to ₹1.5 lakh for a maximum of seven days at any empanelled hospital from the date of the accident.

Effective Inter-Departmental Coordination

To ensure effective implementation of the scheme, the Police Training and Research Institute (PTRI) has conducted both online and offline training programmes for Superintendents of Police, Additional Superintendents of Police, and Station House Officers across the state.

Police officers are required to verify and approve road accident cases on the eDAR (Electronic Detailed Accident Report) portal within 24 hours. Hospitals register accident cases on the Treatment Management System (TMS) application by generating a patient ID and forwarding the case to the police for approval through the eDAR platform.

Time-Bound Approval Process

For non-life-threatening road accident cases, the concerned police station is required to register the case and accord approval on the eDAR portal within 24 hours. In life-threatening cases, the police are allowed up to 48 hours to complete the approval process. If approval is not granted within the first 24 hours, an automated SMS alert is generated through the eDAR system and sent to the Director General of Police. In cases where the accident falls under the jurisdiction of another district, the case must be transferred to the concerned district within three hours.
