The first Monday of the holy month of Sawan brings a significant procession from Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain. Lord Mahakal is taken out in a palanquin, passing through Gudri Chouraha, Bakshi Bazaar and Kaharwadi before reaching Ramghat.
Today marks the first Monday of the holy month of Sawan, bringing a special event for devotees. In Ujjain, Mahakal's city prepares as the palanquin awaits its journey.
According to Akashvani News' correspondent, the first procession of the Sawan month begins today from the world-renowned Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. During this event, Lord Mahakal is seated in his Chandramauleshwar form within a palanquin and moves through the city to offer devotees a darshan (view).
A special prayer takes place at the assembly hall at 3:30 PM, following which the procession departs from the temple at 4 PM.
The procession travels through Gudri Chouraha, Bakshi Bazaar and Kaharwadi before reaching Ramghat. Here, Lord Mahakal is bathed with water from the Shipra river, followed by an aarti (prayer ritual). After this, the procession continues along various routes and is expected to return to the temple by around 7 PM.
The temple administration has made special arrangements for devotees' convenience. Medical teams and round-the-clock ambulance services have been arranged along the route.
