During the Balram Krishi Mahotsav in Betul, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav emphasized the need for farmers to adopt modern farming technologies and government welfare schemes for increased income and profitable agriculture.
In a video conference from his residence, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav addressed farmers at the Balram Krishi Mahotsav in Betul on Monday. He praised the district's rich natural resources, fertile land, and hardworking farmers, emphasizing that the region, blessed by seven rivers including the sacred Tapti River, possesses unmatched agricultural potential and productivity.
The Chief Minister stated that horticulture production in Madhya Pradesh has been steadily increasing, with the State receiving the first prize in the country for outstanding performance in the development and expansion of horticulture crops. This achievement reflects the State Government's commitment to improving farmers' lives.
Recognizing Betul's contribution to Madhya Pradesh's food security through wheat, paddy, maize, and Shree Anna (millets), Chief Minister Yadav noted that if Madhya Pradesh is emerging as the country's ‘Food Basket’, the fertile soil of Betul and the dedication of its farmers have played a vital role in this achievement.
In response to the demands of mung growers, the Chief Minister announced that the procurement limit for eligible farmers has been increased from 25 per cent to 60 per cent of their produce. The State Government will now procure up to 60 per cent of eligible farmers' mung production.
Chief Minister Yadav also highlighted that this year, Madhya Pradesh achieved record wheat procurement by providing a bonus in addition to the Minimum Support Price (MSP). Paddy farmers are receiving additional assistance of ₹4,000 per hectare, while for the first time, the Government has undertaken record procurement of Kodo and Kutki millets, along with a bonus of ₹1,000 per quintal for farmers.
Water conservation and expansion of irrigation facilities remain among the Government's highest priorities. An agreement has been signed with the Government of Maharashtra for the Tapti Basin Mega Recharge Project, which will significantly strengthen irrigation capacity and groundwater conservation in Betul, Burhanpur, Khandwa, and the surrounding region.
