The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Communication and Information Technology convened a meeting with representatives from Meta in New Delhi, addressing the temporary removal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s video post from Facebook. During the discussion, BJP MP and chairperson of the committee, Nishikant Dubey, expressed his disapproval towards Meta India for this action. In a press conference following the meeting, Mr. Dubey voiced his demand for Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg to issue an apology for the incident. If the demand is not met, he announced that the safe harbour protection under Section 79 should be revoked from Meta. The BJP MP also accused Meta, YouTube, and X of inadequately addressing issues related to their algorithms and content moderation. He alleged that these platforms had not effectively acted against child sexual abuse material and content affecting women, despite India's stringent legal framework.
