Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav directs preparations for potential heavy rain and ensures farmer support in light of 15% below-average rainfall. He also emphasizes on encouraging crops requiring less irrigation.
In response to Madhya Pradesh receiving 15% below-average rainfall during the current monsoon season, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has directed officials to prepare for potential heavy rainfall and minimize inconvenience for farmers and citizens. The state has received 483 mm of rainfall between June 1 and August 10, which is 15% below the normal 571 mm for the period.
In a meeting with ministers and senior officials at Mantralaya, discussions revolved around the low rainfall and its consequences. Dr. Yadav expressed concern over deficient rainfall in certain districts and urged all concerned departments to prepare accordingly.
To mitigate these weather conditions, Dr. Yadav has also emphasized on encouraging farmers to opt for rabi crops requiring less irrigation as a precautionary measure. He specifically directed that adequate availability of seed for gram cultivation be ensured.
Regarding water storage, the meeting was informed that the water storage level in dams across the State stood at around 49% as of August 10, which is 10% below the average. The state has 36 reservoirs with storage levels of 50% or less, while 18 reservoirs have storage levels above 50% and up to 90%.
To address this situation, Dr. Yadav has directed regular monitoring of rainfall patterns and water storage levels, as well as the operation of disaster control rooms at the State and district levels.
Additionally, necessary arrangements have been made for relief camps in case of excessive rainfall, ensuring adequate availability of fertilisers and seeds for farmers, uninterrupted power supply for irrigation, timely maintenance and repair of roads after rainfall, issuance of timely warnings to residents of downstream areas whenever water is released from dams, and prevention of infectious diseases during the monsoon.
