The Monsoon session of Parliament ended today with the adjournment sine die, following 19 sittings over 25 days. During this period, several bills of national importance were passed, including the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill and the Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill.

The Monsoon session of Parliament, commencing on the 20th of last month, concluded today after having a total of 19 sittings spanning over 25 days. During these sittings, several bills of national importance were discussed and passed. Among the bills that were passed during this session are the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, the Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, the Tribunals Reforms Bill, the Taxation and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill, the National Co-operative Development Corporation (Amendment) Bill, and the Kerala (Alteration of Name) Bill, 2026. The Parliament also referred the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, to the Joint Parliamentary Committee for further scrutiny.

However, the session was marked by repeated disruptions over issues such as students' protests over the NEET paper leak, alleged police action against protesting students, and alleged anomalies in Ayodhya Ram Temple donation. Despite repeated assurances from the government that they are prepared for detailed discussions on these matters, the opposition continued with their protests, disrupting the proceedings of the House.

In his concluding remarks, Rajya Sabha Chairman C P Radhakrishnan expressed concern over the repeated disruptions in the House. He noted that although the floor of the House was open for discussions, members did not make full use of the opportunities available to them to represent their constituents' concerns. Despite these disruptions, he emphasized that the House managed to fulfill its core legislative duties by passing and returning 12 bills.

According to Mr Radhakrishnan, the House functioned for a total of 37 hours and 49 minutes during this session, resulting in a productivity of 39.17 percent.
