The Union government has denied permission for Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to travel to the United States, citing a political angle. The denial comes after Reddy's UK visit with a delegation.
According to reports by The Hindu and The Indian Express, the Union government has denied permission to Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for his planned trip to the United States. The denial was communicated by the Ministry of External Affairs to the state government, stating that 'clearance from political angle is denied'.
Revanth Reddy's office had initially planned a 10-day tour with the 'Telangana Rising' delegation, which began on Thursday. The visit was scheduled to include stops in the United Kingdom and Boston, where educational agreements were expected to be signed.
However, the state government was informed that permission for the US visit had been denied after the delegation had reached the UK. This development comes despite Reddy's assertion that the objective of his US visit was to bring world-leading educational institutions to Telangana and Hyderabad, in line with the National Democratic Alliance government’s National Education Policy.
In response to this decision, Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, stated that visits of chief ministers and other dignitaries are assessed to accord political clearance. 'The programme proposed in such cases should be appropriate to the office held and the purpose of the visit,' said Jaiswal. He further clarified that the clearance was given for Reddy’s visit to the UK only.
