Following flash floods in Nepal, the governments of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh have increased their flood preparedness for several districts along the Gandak and Bhotekoshi river systems. Nine teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed in Bihar, with eleven teams in Uttar Pradesh.

In response to flash floods in Nepal, six districts of Bihar – West Champaran, East Champaran, Gopalganj, Saran, Muzaffarpur, and Vaishali – have been placed under heightened vigilance along the Gandak river system. People living in low-lying areas of Bagaha in West Champaran and Vaishali district have been urged to move to safer places at the earliest.

Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary constituted a high-level team to closely monitor the situation, while an NDRF team has been deployed in Gopalganj and Bettiah, with another team on standby in Muzaffarpur. The District Magistrates of Sitamarhi, Sheohar, and other districts have been instructed to maintain continuous watch on the situation.

In Uttar Pradesh, vigilance has been intensified in the bordering districts of Maharajganj and Kushinagar due to flooding in the Bhotekoshi River in Nepal’s Rasuwa region. Due to the flooding in Nepal, water levels in the Gandak and Narayani rivers may rise in both districts.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, assuring all possible assistance for dealing with the flood threat. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed nine teams in Bihar and 11 teams in Uttar Pradesh to deal with the emerging situation following the flash floods in Nepal.
