On August 15, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the issue of Indian participation in various sports during his speech from the Red Fort. He stated that India's teams participate only in half of the Olympic sports, thereby missing out on a considerable number of medal opportunities.
Modi further emphasized that sports not only teach a champion's mentality but also instill a better competitor spirit. He added that sports help individuals to rise, fall and get back up again, teaching resilience.
The Prime Minister asserted that playgrounds are more important than screens (referring to digital games), stressing the need for physical activity and sports centers.
