On August 27, 2026, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, flagged off a Metro train themed around India's freedom struggle at the Central Secretariat Metro Station in New Delhi. The train features the lives, thoughts, and contributions of various freedom fighters and revolutionaries associated with India's independence movement.
During the event, Shri Chouhan emphasized that this initiative would offer Metro commuters an opportunity to learn about the country’s freedom movement and the sacrifices made by its national heroes. He also highlighted that it would help the younger generation understand a significant part of India's history and inspire them with the courage and patriotism exhibited by those who fought for the nation.
On the occasion, Shri Chouhan wrote the patriotic phrase, ‘Fairs will be held every year at the pyres of the martyrs,’ as a tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the country. Additionally, he appreciated Prabhat Prakashan, the Managing Director of Delhi Metro, and the entire Metro team for their efforts in bringing the inspiring stories of India's freedom movement closer to the people.
The event also included the presentation of books published by Prabhat Prakashan to Shri Chouhan. Books highlighting the journey and story of the Delhi Metro were showcased on the occasion.
