The launch of the T-Series Tank Overhaul Project in Jabalpur is a significant step towards self-reliance in defence production and modernization, with a focus on enhancing the Indian Army's capabilities. Under the strong leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh, India is moving towards self-reliance in the defence sector. This was stated by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav during the Bhoomi poojan ceremony for the T-Series Tank Overhaul Project at the Vehicle Factory in Jabalpur.
The project will enable the overhaul of 80 tanks every year, as mentioned by Shri Satyavrat Mukherjee, Chairman and Managing Director of Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL). AVNL Jabalpur is also manufacturing various types of vehicles for the Army.
Union Defence Minister Shri Singh said T-72 and T-90 tanks are extremely important for the Indian Army and stand guard along the borders like an iron wall. Over the past four to five years, the Heavy Vehicles Factory has supplied around 4,400 tanks to the Indian Army.
The project in Jabalpur is a significant step towards achieving greater self-reliance in defence production, as Union Defence Minister Shri Singh acknowledged the efforts of the Madhya Pradesh Government.
