The Punjab Government has ordered disciplinary action against employees who participated in a mass casual leave on August 27, and advised concerned authorities to take strict action according to the rules.
In response to the 'Maha Hartal' (mass protest) carried out by lakhs of government employees and pensioners on August 27, demanding the release of dearness allowance (DA), restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), and resolution of other long-standing service-related issues, the Punjab Government has directed all state administrative secretaries and heads of departments to issue show-cause notices to employees who were unauthorisedly absent on that day. The disciplinary action is to be taken strictly as per the rules against those found guilty. It should be noted that this 'Maha Hartal' was a significant event, with lakhs of state government employees and pensioners participating.
Prior to this, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had cancelled a meeting with union leaders scheduled for August 27 in Jalandhar, due to the ongoing strike. In a social media post, he made it clear that while the government is committed to finding solutions to all their issues, talks and strikes cannot occur simultaneously.
