Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman highlighted India’s broad-based growth, reform momentum, and expanding opportunities for long-term investment during a high-level Business Roundtable with leading investors and business leaders in Chicago.
India's Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, addressed a high-level Business Roundtable in Chicago, United States. At the event, she highlighted India’s potential as a long-term investment platform for global companies that are reevaluating their supply chains and capital allocation. She emphasized several factors contributing to India’s investment appeal, such as broad-based growth, reform momentum, skilled talent, world-class infrastructure, technological advancement, and a decade of consistent reforms.
A key focus of the meeting was ‘Manufacture in India – for India and for the world', with opportunities across various sectors including manufacturing, AI and digital, financial services, infrastructure, food processing, defence, and advanced technologies. Sitharaman noted that India’s Digital Public Infrastructure, including Aadhaar, UPI, DigiLocker, ONDC, and India Stack, has created platforms operating at population scale.
The Minister also discussed India’s next phase of growth, focusing on building high-value businesses in AI, engineering, analytics, product development, semiconductors, and electronics. She mentioned that Global Capability Centres are increasingly evolving into global innovation hubs. Additionally, she highlighted GIFT IFSC as an emerging international financial centre connecting global capital with Indian opportunities.
Sitharaman underlined India’s initiatives such as Atmanirbhar Bharat and iDEX, which aim to strengthen domestic capabilities in drones, autonomous systems, and other advanced technologies. She invited global partners to co-develop, co-produce, and build for global markets, encouraging them to view India not merely as a market but as a platform from which to build for the world.
