Ashish Shelar, Maharashtra's Minister for Electronics, Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence Development, and Cultural Affairs, has been chosen as the President of the Esports Games Federation. The federation aims to establish a structured system for esports in India, including national teams, selection processes, competitions, training, rules, and international representation.

Maharashtra Minister Ashish Shelar, responsible for Electronics, Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence Development, and Cultural Affairs, has been elected as the President of the Esports Games Federation (ESGF). The election took place during the federation's general body meeting, attended by representatives from 22 states. After taking office, Shelar declared his intentions to establish a more structured, transparent, and professional framework for esports in India.

According to the federation, India has around 52 crore gamers, with approximately 11 crore people playing games daily. The federation organizes tournaments in 28 games, and esports viewership is estimated at 8 to 9 crore. Shelar emphasized that esports should be developed beyond mere entertainment and gaming, transforming it into a field offering skills, training, discipline, and career opportunities for young individuals.

The ESGF aims to establish a structured system for esports in India, including national teams, selection processes, competitions, training, rules, and international representation. The federation expressed confidence that Shelar’s experience with various sports organizations would provide fresh impetus to the development of esports in the country.

Shelar stated that efforts will be made to give esports a more structured, transparent, and professional framework to attract investment and generate employment opportunities.
