Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, during her US visit, expressed optimism about India's economic growth. She asserted that India is likely to maintain its growth momentum despite geopolitical uncertainties and supply-chain disruptions caused by the US-Iran conflict and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
During her address to the Indian diaspora in Chicago, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman emphasized that India is projected to sustain an economic growth rate of 7 per cent or more in the financial year 2026-27. Despite geopolitical uncertainties and supply-chain disruptions, she expressed confidence in India's ability to maintain its growth momentum, particularly following the US-Iran conflict and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The initial disruption in supplies of key commodities such as crude, petroleum products, and fertilisers was managed by rerouting them. Furthermore, she highlighted that the government has kept fertiliser prices unchanged for farmers through subsidies to counteract the sharp rise in international prices. In addition, she stated that the government will continue with systemic reforms and seek to mobilise more capital, particularly from overseas, as India’s economy expands.
