Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the 26th annual Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The discussions encompassed trade and investment, energy, defence, and the Ukraine conflict. During the meeting, Prime Minister Modi expressed his satisfaction that the collaboration between India and Russia continues to grow. On the Ukraine conflict, he advocated for a peaceful resolution, stating that every day of war hinders humanity's progress. He emphasized the importance of addressing all issues through peaceful means. The meeting took place more than a week before President Putin is scheduled to travel to India to attend the annual BRICS summit. During their conversation, PM Modi noted that India is set to host the BRICS Summit in a few days and welcomed President Putin and his delegation warmly. He expressed confidence that the Russian President's visit would strengthen bilateral relations and deepen dialogue and cooperation within the BRICS framework. President Vladimir Putin acknowledged the ongoing strengthening of Indian-Russian relations, rooted in the principles of a special and privileged partnership.
