The Supreme Court has declined to hear a PIL challenging orders by several state governments restricting entry into public schools, including Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) governments in these states have implemented rules that require permission for photography, videography, interviews, audio recording, and livestreaming inside schools. The orders were issued against the backdrop of a nationwide drive by the Cockroach Janta Party political campaign aimed at improving the condition of government schools. On August 16, the Rajasthan government issued the order, while on August 19, the basic education officer in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, issued a similar order. Authorities in other districts of Utter Pradesh, including Azamgarh, Ballia, Basti, Balrampur, Shamli, and Agra, have also adopted similar restrictions. The petitioner argues that these restrictions violate the fundamental rights guaranteed under Articles 14, 19, and 21 of the Constitution, which protect the rights to equality, freedom, and life and personal liberty.
