The Uttar Pradesh administration demolished a mosque situated within the district magistrate’s office complex, following a court order. The Samajwadi Party MP Iqra Hasan alleged house arrest to prevent her from traveling to Saharanpur. The Bajrang Dal, a Hindutva outfit linked to the ruling BJP, filed a complaint regarding the illegal construction.
On Saturday, the Uttar Pradesh administration executed the demolition of a mosque situated within the Saharanpur district magistrate’s office complex, as reported by The Times of India. This action followed a court's decision to uphold an earlier order declaring the structure illegal.
The illegally constructed mosque had allegedly encroached upon government land, specifically, a premises where confidential administrative work is conducted. On July 17, the city magistrate’s court ordered the mosque’s demolition and directed its occupants to pay around Rs 6.41 crore as compensation.
The order was challenged before the district judge’s court, which on Friday upheld the decision. Subsequently, barricades were erected around the mosque area after a lower civil court passed its order.
Samajwadi Party MP Iqra Hasan alleged that she was placed under house arrest by police at her Kairana residence to prevent her from traveling to Saharanpur. According to ANI, she said a large police force was deployed at her residence overnight and that she intended to visit Saharanpur to meet officials regarding the Collectorate mosque issue.
