Dr Harsh Vardhan, the Minister for Science and Technology, Earth Sciences, and Health and Family Welfare, addressed the sixth edition of the RISE Conclave in Kolkata. In his speech, he emphasized the need to strengthen India's startup ecosystem by focusing on Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, as more than 50% of India's startups are currently based in metropolitan areas.

He stressed that it is crucial to link science, startups, and industry for faster indigenous technology development. The minister highlighted the potential of eastern India's scientific and industrial base, suggesting that it could play a significant role in driving India's technological growth. He also expressed the need for greater use of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies to enhance indigenous machines, optical networks, and other technologies emerging from Indian laboratories.
