Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce of Thailand to discuss ways to enhance bilateral trade and investment between the two countries.

On September 9, 2026, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, held discussions with Ms. Suphajee Suthumpun, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce of Thailand, at Vanijya Bhawan, New Delhi. The focus of the meeting was to strengthen the India-Thailand economic partnership, with a primary aim of expanding bilateral trade and investment opportunities.

During the discussion, both sides exchanged views on how to collaborate and co-create solutions in areas that can promote balanced and sustainable growth in bilateral trade. They also emphasised the importance of strengthening trade promotion activities to foster business networks and facilitate greater business-to-business engagement.

The two sides discussed the progress of the review of the ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA) and the need for deeper bilateral engagement through the India-Thailand Joint Trade Committee (JTC) in a time-bound manner. They also recognised the importance of having a balanced and mutually beneficial framework that can support greater market access and create opportunities for businesses in both countries.

The meeting also addressed a delegation of Thai businesses working across diverse sectors, including space technologies, cold-chain logistics, food processing, innovation, health and wellness, and trade and investment promotion. The two Ministers reaffirmed the shared commitment to further deepen economic engagement, strengthen business partnerships, and build a robust, balanced, and mutually beneficial trade and investment relationship.

India and Thailand share longstanding civilisational, cultural, and economic linkages, as well as a strategic partnership. The two countries have been working towards further expanding bilateral trade and investment and strengthening private-sector cooperation.
