In its annual report, the Indian Ministry of Defence states that China significantly reduced its army deployment along India's northern borders in 2025. However, some combined arms brigades remain deployed.

The Ministry of Defence has revealed in its annual report for the financial year 2025-’26 that China significantly reduced its Army deployment along India’s northern borders in 2025. This reduction comes after border tensions escalated in June 2020, leading to the deaths of 20 Indian soldiers in the Galwan Valley. Following the face-off, both countries deployed thousands of soldiers and heavy artillery in the region.

Since then, several rounds of military and diplomatic talks have been held to resolve the border standoff. In October 2024, China and India announced a patrolling arrangement along the Line of Actual Control, leading to disengagement at several sites of tension. However, 10 combined arms brigades remain deployed in areas along the Line of Actual Control and in traditional training areas. Each brigade typically comprises about 5,000 personnel, according to independent analysts.

In its annual report, the Indian defence ministry stated that the Indian Army’s deployment in all sectors along the Line of Actual Control is 'robust, well poised and prepared to deal with any emerging contingency'. The talks between India and China at political, diplomatic and military levels have led to positive developments along the northern borders, leading to stability.
