Through financial assistance under the Swachhta Udyami Yojana, waste picker Mr. Ponnuru Sanjeevulu's income increased, enabling him to send his children to an English-medium private school and improve their family's standard of living.
For nearly two decades, Mr. Sanjeevulu worked as a waste picker in Guntur earning around INR 150 to 200 per day. As a member of the Scheduled Tribe community, he experienced social discrimination and limited opportunities for socio-economic advancement. Born into an extremely poor family, Mr. Sanjeevulu was unable to attend school and remained illiterate. Struggling with household expenses, he aspired to secure financial stability and provide quality education for his children. On June 19, 2023, he received support through a two-member group project under the Swachhta Udyami Yojana by Navajeevan Organisation. The total cost of the project was INR 16,99,952, with a loan amount of INR 10,24,964 and a capital subsidy of INR 6,74,988. This intervention increased his monthly income from approximately INR 8,000 to around INR 18,000. Today, Mr. Sanjeevulu is able to provide English-medium education for his children in a private school and improve his family's standard of living. He expressed gratitude towards the assistance under the scheme, saying it has increased his income, improved their living conditions, and given him confidence and hope for a better life.
