During his two-day visit to Thimpu, India's External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar launched the second phase of international UPI for Bhutanese citizens, exchanged an MoU on extending the Nehru Wangchuck Scholarship Scheme for higher education by Bhutanese students at Indian institutions, and handed over 54 electric vehicles.

India's External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar reaffirmed India's commitment to Bhutan’s progress and prosperity by launching the second phase of international UPI for Bhutanese citizens visiting India. This move completes two-way UPI-based digital payment connectivity between the two nations.

In a social media post, Dr. Jaishankar stated that together with the use of UPI in Bhutan, this marks a significant advancement in India-Bhutan financial ties.

During his visit, Dr. Jaishankar and Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay witnessed the exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at extending the Nehru Wangchuck Scholarship Scheme for higher education by Bhutanese students at Indian institutions. This step is considered a significant stride in India-Bhutan cooperation in education and capacity building.

In addition, Dr. Jaishankar handed over 54 electric vehicles to Prime Minister Tobgay, indicating India's support for Bhutan’s advances towards e-mobility and sustainability transport.
