The Union Minister for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences has launched the Implementation Phase of Special Campaign 6.0 aimed at promoting cleanliness, efficient utilisation of resources, and reduction of pendency across Government offices.
On October 2, 2026, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr. Jitendra Singh, launched the Implementation Phase of Special Campaign 6.0. The event marked the commencement of a sustained drive to promote cleanliness, good governance, and responsible management of waste across Government offices.
Dr. Singh highlighted the evolution of Swachhata from an initial focus on sanitation to encompassing the disposal of old files, redundant furniture, e-files, and electronic scrap. This shift aims to link Swachhata with administrative efficiency, optimum use of public space, and productive management of resources.
The Minister began the day by participating in launch activities at the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG). He also honoured Safai Mitras by distributing safety kits and sweets. Smt. Nivedita Shukla Verma, Secretary, DARPG; Smt. Rachna Shah, Secretary, DoPT; and Dr. Surendrakumar Bagde, Director General, National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG), were among the senior officers present.
Dr. Singh then proceeded to CSIR Headquarters, where he led a mass cleanliness drive, participated in the Swachhata Signature Campaign and plantation drive, and felicitated Safai Mitras. The activities at CSIR included review and disposal of obsolete records and scrap, workplace improvement, and effective management of office spaces, with emphasis on Jan Bhagidari.
Throughout the campaign, Dr. Singh emphasised the importance of systematic disposal of redundant material to create financial value for the public exchequer and usable space for Government offices. Over the last five years, ₹5,102.91 crore has been generated through disposal of e-waste and scrap, while more than 1,049.54 lakh square feet of office space has been cleared and put to productive use.
