Marco Rubio highlights the profound alignment between India and the US on core national interests, common values, and a forthcoming trade agreement.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has asserted an 'extraordinary alignment' between India and the U.S. on core issues that define the national interest of both countries. During his speech at the 'Freedom 250' reception in Mumbai, he acknowledged that while there may be disagreements, the alignment between the two nations is profound.
Mr. Rubio praised India as a 'powerful, influential and advanced' country, describing it as a 'strong geopolitical partner' for the U.S. He highlighted their shared values, such as upholding individual dignity, promoting democratic principles, and adhering to the rule of law.
In addition to these commonalities, Mr. Rubio cited the need for a 'free and open' Indo-Pacific where no nation can claim dominance or ownership of international shipping as one of the core issues of alignment between India and the U.S. Regarding trade relations, he mentioned that India and the U.S. are very close to signing a bilateral trade deal, with only a few points left to be resolved.
Mr. Rubio arrived in Mumbai yesterday afternoon and plans to visit Reliance Industries’ petrochemicals refinery in Jamnagar, Gujarat, today.
