The World Bank has raised its forecast for India's economic growth in the current financial year, citing robust private consumption and investment as key factors.

In a recent revision, the World Bank has upgraded its projection for India's GDP growth during the current financial year, FY27. The new forecast stands at 7.1%, marking an increase from the earlier estimate of 6.6% that was made in April. This upward adjustment is based on the observed stronger-than-anticipated economic expansion, as indicated by the growth rate of 7.8% recorded during the initial quarter of FY27.

According to the World Bank, private consumption will likely continue to be the primary driver of this growth. Additionally, it expects that strengthened public investment and favorable financial and policy conditions will contribute further support. The exports sector has also shown better-than-expected performance and is projected to serve as a significant positive factor in the growth outlook, although global trade and geopolitical uncertainties might potentially impact private investment.

On the supply side, industrial activity has surpassed expectations, demonstrating robust growth in sectors such as infrastructure, construction goods, and electricity generation. However, a deficit in rainfall during the southwest monsoon has negatively affected agricultural prospects and may have a moderate influence on rural demand. The services sector, however, continues to register elevated growth despite slightly decelerating from its previous high annual benchmark.
