Congress leader Rahul Gandhi led an opposition march to the Supreme Court on Monday, where they submitted a petition demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The Supreme Court allowed the plea to be considered, despite the petition being declined for a meeting by Chief Justice Surya Kant.

On Monday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi called for public support in an opposition march to the Supreme Court to meet Chief Justice Surya Kant and submit a petition against the Election Commission, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The demand stems from concerns about the functioning of the Election Commission and its handling of the special intensive revision of electoral rolls.

The Opposition marched to the Supreme Court to submit a petition against the Election Commission. On Monday evening, the Supreme Court allowed Gandhi and other opposition leaders' plea against the Election Commission to be submitted. However, Chief Justice Kant declined the request for a meeting. The Supreme Court's decision comes after three consecutive days of protests in Delhi, led by the Opposition parties, student groups, and the Cockroach Janta Party political campaign.

Since October 2, protests against Kumar have been held not only in Delhi but also in other parts of the country. In Bengaluru, several protesters were detained while demonstrating against Kumar at KR Circle, as reported by The Hindu.

The special intensive revision of electoral rolls, which began in June 2025, has faced questions about its implementation and potential impact on voters' rights. In May, the Supreme Court upheld the legality of the exercise, but clarified that it does not mean the Election Commission can decide on whether a person is an Indian citizen.

Despite this, Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled states have used the special intensive revision to deny ration cards and passport renewals to those who have been eliminated from the rolls.
