A Delhi court orders the release of two Cockroach Janta Party leaders after their detention for trespassing into Jantar Mantar and waving the national flag. Separately, SBI identifies a cyberattack leading to about 3.75 lakh customer records being leaked on the dark web, including personally identifiable information.
In a recent development, a Delhi court has ordered the release of Cockroach Janta Party leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das. The two, along with another campaign leader, Ajinkya Shinde, had been detained on October 13 after they sneaked into Jantar Mantar to protest against the decision to denotify the area as a designated protest site. On October 14, Ranka and Das were sent to judicial custody for five days. Shinde was released on a personal bond.
After their custody ended on Monday, a Delhi court extended Ranka and Das’ judicial custody by two days. The CJP leaders had been detained under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, which allows for up to 180 days of detention without charge.
Separately, the State Bank of India (SBI) has identified a cyberattack that led to about 3.75 lakh customer records being leaked on the dark web, of which 3,897 contained personally identifiable information such as names, mobile numbers, dates of birth, gender, email addresses, and residential addresses.
The bank stated that the leak was not expected to have any impact on its operations or financial performance. However, digital rights organisation Internet Freedom Foundation flagged that the bank had not notified the customers whose data had been leaked and had only informed the stock exchanges about it.
