Mizoram observes Police Commemoration Day, tributes paid to fallen personnel from 2025-2026 and since 1966. Ceremonies held across state.
On Wednesday, Mizoram joined the rest of the country in observing Police Commemoration Day, a day set aside to honour police personnel who have lost their lives while serving the nation. The annual observance dates back to October 21, 1959, when ten Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed in an ambush by Chinese forces at Hot Springs in Ladakh.
This year, tributes were paid to 154 police personnel who died in the line of duty between September 1, 2025, and August 31, 2026. Although no Mizoram Police personnel lost their lives during this period, the state remembered 54 personnel who have made the supreme sacrifice since 1966.
In Aizawl, senior police officers and representatives of other security agencies took part in the main wreath-laying ceremony at the 1st Battalion Mizoram Armed Police (MAP) Headquarters. Similar programmes were held at police units across all districts of the state.
