Raj Thackeray deletes a documentary alleging close ties between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and industrialist Gautam Adani following a request from the Mumbai Police commissioner. The documentary was viewed over 48 lakh times.
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray announced on Sunday that he had deleted a documentary made by Hotmail founder Sabeer Bhatia, which detailed the alleged close ties between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and industrialist Gautam Adani. The decision to delete the documentary was made following a request conveyed through the Mumbai Police commissioner.
According to Thackeray, the documentary had garnered more than 48 lakh views on X alone and reached audiences on other social media platforms. He claimed that those in power were anxious about the allegations being brought to light due to the documentary's wide reach.
Thackeray has been vocal about his concerns regarding the Adani Group's influence since January, particularly in the run-up to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections. He clarified that his opposition was not directed at any individual but against the rise of a monopoly.
The MNS chief emphasized that he supports the growth of multiple industrialists across the country, generating wealth and employment opportunities for the nation. He stated that if the government's favoritism towards one industrialist poses a threat to the nation, he would oppose it, making his opposition against any form of monopoly, whether it involves Adani or others.
On October 18, the Mumbai Police issued legal notices to 24 users of social media platform X, who had shared the documentary. The notices alleged that the content contained false, misleading, and disparaging claims about the Adani group, which were 'circulated without any factual or legal basis and caused ongoing harm to its reputation, goodwill, and public image'. Bhatia, who had also shared the documentary on X, said on Wednesday that he had removed the posts following a request from Mumbai Police.
