KVIC Chairman expresses gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his consistent encouragement of Khadi and Swadeshi products, leading to increased sales and employment generation.
Shri Manoj Goel, Chairman of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), has expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his repeated emphasis on purchasing Khadi and locally-made products. In the 139th episode of his 'Mann Ki Baat' programme, Modi highlighted the increasing sales of Khadi and village industry products and encouraged citizens to prioritize such items during the upcoming festive season. Goel stated that this support from the Prime Minister serves as a source of honour, motivation, and infused energy for the millions of artisans, weavers, craftsmen, and rural entrepreneurs associated with the Khadi and Village Industries sector.
Goel credited Modi's continuous inspiration for the transformation of this sector beyond its traditional identity into a significant source of employment generation, women empowerment, strengthening of rural economy, and building a self-reliant India. Today, Khadi is seen as a symbol of Swadeshi (indigenous) and economic empowerment.
In the 12th year anniversary episode of Mann Ki Baat, Goel noted that Modi's mention of Khadi and Village Industries was a source of immense pride. On October 3, 2014, during the first episode of Mann Ki Baat, Modi called upon citizens to buy at least one Khadi product, bestowing a new identity upon it. Since then, he has consistently encouraged the purchase of Khadi and Swadeshi products.
Sales records have been set following various appeals made by Modi over the years. On October 2, 2023, Khadi Bhawan located at Connaught Place recorded over Rs 1.52 crore in sales, following an appeal made in the 81st episode on September 26, 2021.
Goel stated that as a result of Modi's visionary thinking and policies, the Khadi and Village Industries sector has witnessed unprecedented growth. In the 2025-26 financial year, the turnover of this sector surpassed Rs 1.87 lakh crore, while providing employment to over 2.04 crore people.
