An in-depth look at the progress of various government schemes under the National Mission for Financial Inclusion (NMFI), highlighting enrolments, loan sanctions, and coverage across different demographics.

The Government's commitment to financial inclusion and providing access to banking, credit, and insurance services for all sections of society, particularly marginalized communities, is demonstrated through the National Mission for Financial Inclusion (NMFI). Launched in August 2014 under the banner of Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), this initiative aims to provide universal banking services for every unbanked household.

As of 1st July 2026, a total of 58.63 crore Jan-Dhan accounts have been opened under PMJDY, with a deposit balance of Rs. 3,08,333 crores. Out of these accounts, 32.68 crore (55.74%) belong to women and about 45.62 crore (77.80%) have been opened in rural and semi-urban areas.

Other schemes under NMFI include Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), which has cumulative enrolments of 27.84 crore as of 1st July 2026, providing life insurance cover of Rs. 2 lakh for death due to any reason.

Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) has 58.78 crore cumulative enrolments, offering one-year accidental cover of Rs. 2 lakh (death or permanent total disability) and Rs. 1 lakh (permanent partial disability).

Under Atal Pension Yojana (APY), 9.29 crore cumulative enrolments have been made as of 30th June 2026, to provide monthly pensions to eligible subscribers.

Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) has sanctioned 59.14 crore loans amounting to Rs. 41.71 lakh crore, providing collateral-free institutional finance to micro/small business units up to Rs.20 lakh.

Stand-Up India Scheme (SUPI) has sanctioned 2.75 lakh cumulative loans amounting to Rs. 62,790 crores to Scheduled Caste / Schedule Tribe and Women entrepreneurs for setting up projects in various sectors as of 31st March 2025.
