The Hon'ble Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh Alias Lalan Singh will visit districts in Sikkim to review fisheries development initiatives, launch an SOP for organic fish farming, and inaugurate projects worth Rs.375 Lakh under PMMSY.
On 01 NOV 2026, the Hon'ble Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh Alias Lalan Singh is scheduled to visit districts in Sikkim as part of a structured mechanism for periodic visits of Union Ministers to the Northeastern Region, guided by the Prime Minister. During his visit, he will review fisheries development initiatives and launch a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for organic fish farming, inaugurate projects worth Rs.375 Lakh under PMMSY, and interact with fish farmers.
The union minister will distribute Kisan Credit Cards to fish farmers and cheques to fish farmers under Mukhya Mantri Matsya Uthpadhan Yojana (MMMUY). He will also interact with the Fish Farmers’ Cooperative Society during a visit to the Live Fish Vending Centre at Mangshila to understand field-level requirements in fish marketing and cooperative activities, review fisheries development and PMMSY interventions at DAC, Mangan, and take feedback from fisheries stakeholders on implementation issues. These engagements aim to assess fisheries development needs in Sikkim, particularly in remote and geographically challenging areas.
The Northeastern Region, rich in freshwater resources, diverse aquatic ecosystems, and biodiversity, has significant potential for sustainable and high-value fisheries and aquaculture. By leveraging these advantages through certification, robust traceability, aggregation, processing, and value addition to align with global export market requirements, the region can strengthen its position as a hub for certified organic and premium fishery products.
The Government has adopted a cluster-based approach for integrated development of the fisheries value chain, bringing together production, processing, value addition, and marketing within identified geographical areas. Under PMMSY, 34 fisheries production and processing clusters have been notified across the country, including organic fisheries clusters in Sikkim and Meghalaya.
