Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given his approval for the development of the Northern Bullet Train Corridor, which will link Delhi to Guwahati via Siliguri. This announcement was made by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw during his visit to Varanasi, where he also flagged off the Varanasi-New Delhi Vande Bharat Sleeper Express. The Northern Bullet Train Corridor is designed to revolutionize connectivity across northern and eastern India by reducing the current 20-hour journey between Delhi and Siliguri to just six hours.
The high-speed rail corridor will cover approximately 1,500 km and will pass through key cities across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and Assam. The key stations include Delhi, Agra, Kanpur, Lucknow, Ayodhya, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Patna, Siliguri, and Guwahati. Railway Minister Vaishnaw also emphasized that ticket fares for the high-speed rail network will be highly economical and significantly lower than airfares.
According to Mr Vaishnaw, the network is intended to boost small-scale industries, providing benefits directly to middle-income households, youth, and local artisans.
